Here's one we prepared earlier......(video at bottom of blog!)
Re-cycling and Helping Others
Hello everyone....this is just a very quick blog. We tried to do a video on the way out to school the other day but it was a bit rushed! School Run Madness!
Anyway, the point of it was, we are always trying to find ways to recycle, and giving to charity is a really good way to do that and help others too.
Everyone has different charities they like to support because of special reasons and even if you can't take things to the shops, lots of them send plastic bags round the doors and will pick up for you. Mum says you have to be a little bit careful sometimes and make sure it is a charity you know and trust but there are lots and lots of really good causes which need help.
You can even give them a phone if you miss them, and quite a few like the British Heart Foundation, Strathcarron Hospice and the Salvation Army have furniture shops too and are happy to collect your old items. If you live somewhere different, there are probably similar charities in your area too.
It is good to help others and if we can re-use things it means that more new stuff won't have to be made and that will help the planet too.
Of course, it raises money for Charity too and that's a good thing. There are lots of good ways to raise money for charity but donating your clothes and other things is a good way to recycle and help others too.
Day 2 - February 12th 2016 How'd Ya Like Them Sock Apples???
Hello Everyone - today we'd like to talk to you about socks - well, not really just socks but about all sorts of things you can re-use instead of having to buy things like kitchen roll, special cloths and wipes.
When we buy kitchen roll from the shops or wipes that we just use once and throw in the bin - we are wasting the planet's natural resources. This is bad because we use up trees and energy to make new things and we all need trees to live and breathe. - Not just us, animals and plants too.
If we keep on wasting all the precious things we have on our planet, one day, there won't be enough trees left and our planet will die. We need to do everything we can to help the environment and stop things like global warming getting any worse.
We also have to try to save energy and buying new things when we don't need them wastes lots of energy because they have to be made and travel to the shops. Erin also wants to say that it wastes lots of money too!
SOCKS are one of our favourite reusable things. (Erin says, also pants!!!) Socks are always going missing, so you are left with one, or they get holes in them - but there are lots of useful things you can do with them - so don't throw them away.
Here are some of the things we do:
Clean our faces!
Use them as dusters and cloths (socks are great because you can put your hand inside and grab dirt, them turn them round / tuck them up and keep using)
Clean our bottoms (Erin's suggestion)
SOCK APPLES!!! - get a clean sock and after you've washed your apple, put it inside so you can carry it in a bag or in your pocket without it getting dirty again!!!
When you are done with the socks / pants / leggings / old rags etc. You can just chuck them in the washing machine with everything else and they don't take up very much room, so you aren't doing extra washes.
There are lots of other things you can do with socks and other old bits of fabric to avoid having to buy kitchen roll. We really have never had it in the house since Erin was born and we manage ok, even though she's the messiest, muckiest, dirtiest, stinkiest, little sister ever!!!
If we can do it, maybe you could give it a go too? How about for Lent? Or even a week?
Thanks for reading our blog....have a great weekend.
